a) Is responsible for managing the day to day operational aspects of the Hub;
b) Makes information available to the Steering Committee on the operational aspects of the Hub
DIRECTOR – IDEAL RESEARCH HUB
PROFESSOR STELLA VALENZUELA
Professor Valenzuela is a cell and molecular biologist who is internationally recognised for her work in discovery of the human CLIC1 protein and in demonstrating CLIC family members as moonlighting proteins. Her research incorporates her background in cell biology and inflammation with biophysical studies of the CLIC proteins and their interactions with membranes.
Professor Valenzuela’s work extends to the application of membrane proteins in the development of novel nanomaterials and devices.
Professor Valenzuela also leads bionanotechnology research on the the therapeutic and diagnostic application of gold nanoparticles and development of tethered membrane biosensor technologies, in collaboration with her industry partners Surgical Diagnostics Pty Ltd and Biotics Pty Ltd.
SCIENTIFIC DIRECTOR – IDEAL RESEARCH HUB
DISTINGUISHED PROFESSOR DAYONG JIN
Distinguished Professor Jin guides the overall research direction of the IDEAL Research Hub, including technology integration, partnership engagement and research performance.
He is also the Director of the Institute for Biomedical Materials and Devices at the University of Technology Sydney.
Professor Jin is a world leader in engineering time-resolved photonics devices, and luminescent nanoprobes which can up-convert low-energy infrared photons into more useful visible light for high-contrast detection.
Professor Jin was named the 2017 John Booker medallist in engineering science and was a 2015 Eureka Prize winner for Excellence in Interdisciplinary Scientific Research. He also was lead researcher the project: New Nanoparticle Discovery to Aid Super-Resolution Imaging published in Nature in February 2017.
DEPUTY DIRECTOR – IDEAL RESEARCH HUB
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR CRAIG PRIEST
Associate Professor Priest is a research leader at the Future Industries Institute and the SA Node Director of the Australian National Fabrication Facility. His research group tackles challenges in interfacial, physical, and analytical science in micro/nanofluidic devices and other small scale environments. He works closely with industry partners in minerals, water quality, health, and advanced manufacturing. A/Prof. Priest is Node Director of ANFF-SA, a $20M investment dedicated to micro/nanofabrication of emerging technologies. A/Prof. Priest’s research is funded through the ARC schemes (Discovery, Linkage, and Industrial Transformation Research Hub), other Commonwealth agencies, SA Government, and his extensive industry network.
PROJECT MANAGER – IDEAL RESEARCH HUB
KRISTIE RADUNZ
Kristie Radunz is professional Project Manager with over 20 years’ experience in the investment banking, financial services, academic, property and retail sectors, working at companies such as Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, Goldman Sachs, Babcock & Brown and Mirvac Group. Kristie has been responsible for functional areas such as Construction Management, Project Management, Fundraising, Human Resources and Investor Relations.
